Breathwork has been practiced in ancient traditions for thousands of years. It has been used all over the globe in different cultures for the purpose of physical, psychological, emotional, and even spiritual healing. The practices have since been refined for modern use and supported by evidence-based results.
Breathing practices can help us to dissolve self-sabotaging narratives that are not in alignment with our authentic self. By introducing these practices into our lives, we may begin to return to our unique essence - to who we always were, beneath the layers of conditioning and programmed re-actions. It all begins with a first step. By improving the relationship with yourself (body & mind) - you will inherently be improving everything else.
Your therapist will guide you through a simple 3 part breathwork session to help you settle into your body and get out of your head. This can help with stress management, relaxation, meditation, manifestation and much more.
The short answer is that breathwork is breathing.
In all seriousness, like yoga, there are many different styles, types and lineages of breathing patterns that fall under the guise of breathwork. In breathwork, you manipulate or change your breathing pattern to have a desired effect on the body. Some breathwork techniques are more calming and regulating to the system while others are activating and help to enhance your physical performance.
The type of breathwork that I guide, as trained by David Elliott, is active breathing technique known for its transformative effects. It allows us to disconnect from our head, reconnect to the body, move stuck energy and emotions, and be an active participant in our own healing. It is a completely safe practice where we breathe through the mouth for the entirety of the practice. The continuous breathing helps to break down the emotions that build up in the body that are stagnant and unprocessed and create havoc on our physical and energetic bodies.
Breathwork is the fastest way to get out of your head and into your body and your intuition. It can be a powerful tool for focus and manifestation. For many people, it facilitates an emotional purging, leaving you feeling lighter and clearer. In essence, you are relearning to inhabit your body, establish new pathways in the brain and cultivate emotional and relational intelligence.
No, you do not need to have any experience. This service is for all levels. Each session will be tailored to the needs of the client. Anyone can do breathwork. However, if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, or severe panic attacks, you should consult your doctor first. If you have asthma, make sure to bring your inhaler to your sessions, and if you're pregnant it may be best to wait until the child is born.
No. The breathing will be from 5-20 minutes depending on the client. This will be discussed at the beginning of your session. There will always be time for rest and individual processing following your breath work.
That is up to you and what your intentions are.
Everybody’s experience with breathwork will be different but this practice will help you come more fully into your heart and invite you to create space to hear your heart's wisdom. Some experiences will be physical, some emotional, and some spiritual or transformational. The beautiful thing is YOU ARE IN CONTROL the entire time.
